A Weekend with Mary!

Spend a 'Weekend with Mary' unlocking fascinating history and unique Mary Poppins connections while experiencing some 'SUPERCALIFRAGILISTIC' fun.

'Weekends with Mary' run on the last weekend of every month with a full programme of heritage themed activities operating on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday – 9.30am to 9pm

The 2 hour 'Tea with Mary' tour, starting at City Hall, Kent Street at 9.30am, includes free admission to Bond Store and Customs House museums and finishes with a delightful morning tea in a heritage café.

At 2pm you can board the painted verandah bus for a one hour interpretive commentary of the City highlights. You will discover many of Maryborough’s historical homes, historical sites and other points of interest. Departs City Hall, Kent Street.

From 5pm to 9pm, re-live the bawdy, lively early days of Maryborough with a Lamplight Bazaar in its heritage Portside precinct.

Costumed characters, torchlight tours, entertainment, old fashioned food and craft barrows will help recreate the atmosphere of the once thriving port 150 years ago.

Exhibits will come alive on a 'Night at the Museum' tour of the Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum.

Old fashioned guides will take people on a 'Night Watchman' tour, spinning yarns about sailors, smugglers, brothels and opium dens.

To quench your thirst for history, join the 'Portside Pub Tour' (children under 18 yrs not permitted) and soak up amazing pub architecture and hear tall tales of the past.

Gatakers Artspace will introduce a series of musical and artistic performances on Saturday's to coincide with the Lamplight Bazaar.

Sunday – 9am to 1pm

A wonderful, lazy Sunday morning of steam train rides, brass bands and traditional children’s games held in Maryborough’s stunning Queens Park.

Brass bands play inside a graceful old band rotunda while the unique sounds of the locally made steam driven calliope echo across the park.

With hourly departures between 10am and 2pm, you can experience the captivating sights and architecture of Maryborough from a different perspective with a cruise on the Mary River!
Inclusions: 1 hour cruise and sausage sizzle. Departing from the Public Jetty, Wharf Street.

All morning, the Mary Ann, a full sized replica of Queensland’s first steam locomotive built in Maryborough in 1873, chugs along the riverside parklands.

Children and adults can also climb onboard miniature steam trains, which run on a circuit around Queens Park. It’s a tradition begun by the city’s Model Engineers and Live Steamers Association (MELSA) over 30 years ago – and one that uniquely captures Maryborough’s carefree, family-friendly lifestyle.

Hear Maryborough’s famous time cannon fired at noon by the Town Crier.
