Today Maryborough's once thriving port district is a unique heritage precinct called 'Portside'. We are six Wharf Street businesses devoted to bringing back the hustle and bustle of the days when the area flourished. It is our intention to bring tourism and life back to this historic district. Our belief is that the potential for refurbishment and rebirth is limited only to our imaginations. And we, of the Maryborough Portside / Wharf Street business district, know no imaginative bounds!!

The businesses, listed below, are just a few of the many interesting places that make up 'Maryborough Portside' and provide an adventure not to be missed when visiting the Maryborough area.

The Mary River, which winds and bends around the City of Maryborough, defines Portside. The history of Portside is extensive, dating back to 1847 when the port was opened for the transport of wool and where thousands of new settlers arrived in the new colony. Maryborough was the second major immigration port after Sydney in the last half of the 1800's.

The port is long dormant, but you can still walk the old time streets, once the home of ruffians, sailors, brothels and opium dens, and discover for yourself the remarkable history and gloriously preserved buildings that remain.

Two magnificent riverside parks - Queens Park botanic gardens and the Mary River Parklands, connect the world-class Brolga theatre to the marina and provide a natural avenue into the stunning colonial streetscapes of Wharf and Richmond streets.

Maryborough's once thriving wharves are long gone, but in their place is an exceptional heritage precinct called Portside - with sensational parklands, museums, restaurants, art galleries, historic pubs, steam train rides and river cruises.
