Welcome to the Heart of Portside!!!

Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum ... Maryborough Tours ... Criterion Hotel
Post Office Hotel ... Riverboat Cruises ... The Port Residence

The mission of Maryborough Portside is to re-establish the bygone days of Wharf Street at its height. We are Wharf Street businesses devoted to bringing back the hustle and bustle of the days when the area flourished. It is our intention to bring tourism and life back to the beauty of this historic district.

The history of Portside is extensive, dating back to 1847 when the port was opened for the transport of wool, right up to the closure of Walkers shipyard in 1974. In 1999, the luxury liner, Norwegian Star, made a visit to the port and with the renown of Fraser Island and Hervey Bay whale watching, the future of the Portside area may well have its place as a regular stopover feature of luxury cruises.

Our belief is that the potential for refurbishment and rebirth is limited only to our imaginations. And we, of the Maryborough Portside / Wharf Street business district, know no imaginative bounds!!

One of the highlights of the Maryborough Portside businesses is a five hour Ship to Shore Tour held on the 3rd Saturday of every month.

Ship to Shore includes an air-conditioned Colonial bus tour of the town of Maryborough, a Sunset river cruise on the Mary River and a horse and wagon ride from the Maryborough Museum to the Post Office Hotel. You will enjoy wine and cheese tasting at the Criterion Hotel, an elegant 3 course dinner at the beautiful Port Residence and dessert at the historic Post Office Hotel.

You will experience an unforgettable evening that is second to none when it comes to combining history, entertainment, fine cuisine and enjoyment. Residents arrive in historic colonial dress to enhance the value of the tour for visitors to our area.

Each of the separate businesses that make up Maryborough Portside provide an adventure not to be missed when visiting the Maryborough area. As the only port during the colonial times, the Wharf Street district held all the glitz and glamour to be found. For more information on each of the Portside group businesses, click here!
